Feminist Analysis of TV Show 30 Rock Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Feminist Analysis of TV Show 30 Rock - Essay Example This factor threatens male egocentricity. Feminine perceptions are more humanistic. This is manifested in the show 30 Rock and its popularity. Feminists with Marxist perceptions would place emphasis on the manner in which the social systems and motivations of capital gain have hindered the humane feminist values from coming to light. Feminists with a radical perspective would conclude that the subduction of this feminist approach is a result of male egocentricity. This is also due to society's insistence of sexual orientation, rather than making allowances for individual freedom of choice. There is also the insistence of the perception of the consumption oriented nuclear family. Feminists who maintain a liberal perspective perceive things in a different light ( Kaplan : 252). The feminine perspective is essential to the male dominated society as demonstrated by the relationship between Liz (Tina Fey) and Jack (Alex Baldwin). There exists the possibility of interchanging sexual identi ties. In order to totally become human, different perspectives must be adapted. The American television series 30 Rock, demonstrates the interchange of roles between masculine and feminine genders. Prior to the 1990s, during the era of 1963- 1980, females were only portrayed as sexual objects or for the fulfillment of masculine needs. The sexual objects and need fillers were put into place in order to fulfill the masculine requirements and desires. This resulted in the feminist desire to eradicate this type of subduction (Kaplan : 253). There are three categories of feminist, each with a specific motivation and objective ( Kaplan :252). The feminist perspectives which were popularized in the 1990s are still popular today. The first category of feminist evaluation and research requires that the members of the female gender be treated as peers. This venue has two possible outcomes. One approach may conclude with domesticated feminism. This is representative of feminine roles of the ni neteenth century. The second possible outcome of this venue is a liberal female female perspective, which is more representative of the present. From my feminist perspective, Liz (Tina Fey) is the embodiment of both. In the liberal feminine perspective, females are allowed to vie within the institutional framework for equal rights to employment and self determination. This requires that the female be perceived as a peer. This perception by society includes the rights and obligations of equal treatment. This perspective has resulted in the American male adopting the roles in the household which would be normally classified as feminine such as cooking, cleaning, babysitting (Kaplan: 254). A primary type of feminine role perception exists in Diana Meehan's Ladies of the Evening: Woman Characters in Prime Time Television. The second category of feminine television production is viewed by the ââ¬Å"pre- Althusserian Marxistâ⬠feminist perspective. This perspective perceives televis ion as an extension of capitalist society. These theorist propose that television interests are founded upon the manipulation of the television viewer as a consumer Kaplan: 257). A third category of feminist evaluation arises from the radical feminist perspective. In this perspective, the female gender is perceived as superior. Liz (Tina Fey) perceives herself as superior, she does not need a relationship with a man. Liz (Tina Fey) can get things done by herself.

Dana White - Authentic Leadership Characteristics. Ultimate Fighting Research Paper
Dana White - Authentic Leadership Characteristics. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) - Research Paper Example Dana White: Authentic Leader There is a lot of biographical information, fan praise, gossip, statistics, and anecdotes available about Dana White, CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).. What I found most revealing, however, are the stories that provide brief glimpses into his life. They are not mainstream stories, meaning they are not about love and marriage, tragedy and dashed dreams. They are not about an individual with a nine to five kind of life. They are stories of extraordinary purpose, strong values for right action, establishing trust, demonstrating self-discipline, and astounding passion for the core elements of his life: MMA (mixed martial arts) as a sport, the UFA and its fighters and fans. The picture that emerges from these stories is of an authentic leader, a man who, though surrounded by fans and fighters, often stands alone; lives fearlessly, acts heroically, wants to be free and true more than anything else, takes unconditional responsibility for himself, faces everything and avoids nothing, lives for a higher purpose, has insight, demonstrates initiative, exerts influence, has impact, and exercises integrity. Understanding UFC Purpose Dana White rescued the UFC, when it was basically worthless, disrespected, and badly organized around a sport most states did not even allow. He arranged, with investors, to buy it for $2 million, with him as president. In less than a decade, he has guided the UFC to astounding success and put mixed martial arts onto the map and into the mainstream (Hyson, 2011). Time Magazine estimated UFCââ¬â¢s net worth to be over 1 billion dollars, and it out-performs boxing and wrestling in pay-per-view revenue (Hyson, 2011). For Dana White, however, the UFC is about more than money. It is about generating and sustaining respect for a sport he loves. After arranging the purchase of the UFC, White implemented safety rules and medical exams, re-structured the image of UFC and the sport, taking pride in the education and intelligence of the fighters, as well as their physical qualities. He marketed fighterââ¬â¢s athleticism and personalities by producing a highly successful, quality television series about them (Hyson, 2011). He carefully controls the image of mixed martial arts, as a now respectable sport, and he requires positive fighter-fan interaction (Hyson, 2011). In addition to seeing the role of the UFC as generating and sustaining respect for the sport, Dana White further sees the role of the UFC as maintaining the top brand status in the sport. He keeps only the best fighters and is therefore not intimidated by the competition. He says, ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re the Super Bowl of mixed martial artsâ⬠(Hyson, 2011). Dana White is an authentic leader because he demonstrates the qualities of insight, influence and impact. These qualities are three of five which denote authentic leadership (Hyatt, 2010). He influences UFC fighters and fans to keep a respectable image. Actually, Forbes magazine recently listed him as one of the most influential people in the world (Koapaka.org, 2011). He has demonstrated insight into how to restructure his organization to support that goal, and how to market that improved image while building a tremendous fan base. His impact on the sport of mixed martial arts fighting is enormous. Andrew Cohen, founder of EnlightenNext, lists eight behaviors that characterize authentic leadership. Two of these are: ââ¬Å"Want to be true and free more than anything elseâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Live for a higher purposeâ⬠(Cohen, 2011). Dana White demonstrates both of these qualities as he continues to raise the quality of the sport. He and UFC are already the best, yet he continues to strive for better. He

Building Rapport in Community Setting
Building Rapport in Community Setting Clint B. Magbago Introduction This written report is all about cultural assortment which is also relating to or including many different cultures. To give you an idea what this written report is all about, it is having a heart and mind that concede, accepts, values and celebrates other ways in which people live and interact all over the world. Everybody is embraced by cultural diversity at any rates of their cultural differences. People are harmonious by cultural diversity over common phase that includes acceptance, well-being, security, esteem and physical, emotional and spiritual neutrality. FILIPINO CULTURE The Filipino culture consists of a variety of different cultures. These cultures vary from different places in the country. Although there are many cultures, there are common practices practiced by the Filipinos. Firstly, Filipino people commonly use the words Mano Po. Mano is a Spanish word for hand while Po is used in the end of the sentence when addressing elders or superiors. (Filipino Customs And Traditions) This implicates a show of respect to elderly people. Mano po is done by putting the right back hand of the elderly on the forehead of the younger ones. This also means that a blessing is given by the elderly people. Secondly, Filipinos have their unique traits of Family close ties. It is one of the outstanding cultural values that Filipinos have. The family takes care of each other and is taught to be loyal to family and elders by simply obeying their authorities. (Traditional Culture And Modern Culture: Mans Fall From Grace) One of the good examples is having a family reuni on during temporal and religious holidays like Christmas, fiestas, holy week, wedding, birthdays and many more where all the relatives are invited regardless of the number of people going. This means that Filipino culture is not only a traditional practice but also in the spiritual aspects of family bonding. Lastly, we Filipinos are very romantic. When it comes to dating, a traditional dry run is done where a man serenades a woman. In our language, it is called harana. Harana is one of the most popular forms of courtship to show that a man is very serious with his intentions to a woman. (Filipino Customs and Traditions) The young man will sing a love song in front of the ladys house. The man usually brings an instrument like guitar or sometimes it is done in acapella. You will figure out if the woman has the same feelings if she opens their windows when the young man started to sing. It also shows a sign of respect to the man who is serenading. In addition, the parents of the woman must be there to entertain the man after serenading. Usually, he is offered with food and drink. Getting to know the mans intentions, the family tends to ask questions and decide whether he is fit for the hand of their daughter. FILIPINO BELIEFS When it comes to religion, the Philippines are one of the large catholic cluster in Asia. Filipinos believe that having a strong devotion may lead to a better life and their guidance to face everyday life. (Filipino Customs And Traditions) Some Filipinos go to church every Sundays, others go twice or thrice a week depends on their devotion and how they reflect their self. Filipinos have a strong faith and belief when it comes to religion. One good example of this is Sinulog where it is a feast of Jesus Christ when he was a small child and is celebrated in Cebu City, Philippines during the 3rd Sunday of January. Different people of different countries and different places in the Philippines are all gathered together to witness the festival of the saint. They usually do the sinulog dance where they dance together with the statue of a small Jesus Christ in the street. With this celebration some people may risk their lives because of too many people gathered in the street, some are exhau sted and others are cannot breath. On worst case scenarios, it may cause a stampede. Moreover, there is another event like this, namely the feast of the black Nazarene (in Quiapo Manila) where many people wanted to touch the statue with their small handkerchief in hopes of transferring the blessing and luck from the statue. This can be a bit dangerous since thousands of people are gathered around the statue. On the other hand Filipinos also believe in superstitions. These beliefs are nabes of our culture, for one make out their beliefs from the leverage of what their customs, they charge culture and traditions to discuss anonymous or try to affright the people. Some are practiced primarily because Filipinos believe that there is nothing to lose if they will comply with these beliefs. (Filipino Customs And Traditions) it is thought by our distinct ancestors that there are other different living things that still exist in our world that we do not see in our own naked eye, and we need to respect them for us to be free from harm or any possible danger. FILIPINO COSTUMS AND VALUES Filipino people have a different variety of taste when it comes to food. We also have different specialty from different regions of the Philippines where they made unique types of lovely and tasty cuisine, but there is this one well known type of food where you can see it any every occasions. Filipinos call it lechon. It is a roasted pig that most Filipinos love because of the crispy and crunchy skin and the belly part that has a fantastic taste. It is delicious because all of the ingredients are put inside the belly of the pig that allows it to ooze out and spread all throughout the body. In addition Filipinos like to eat, we have this unique diet that came up to a six meals a day and some are eating midnight snack before going to sleep. RUSSIAN CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS On the other hand, there are many different cultures that are migrating here in Auckland. One of this is the Russian people but they have lesser number of population. They have an organization here that celebrates their own unique custom and traditions. As what I have observed, Russian people here in Auckland they have this irrational attitude so dont ever give try to reason out to them because it will never work for them. They have this chaos belief, serendipity, and adaptation. (Russian Customs And Traditions). In addition, they prize generosity, they can have you their final meal they have if they take that you really require it. So if you are in need they will help you as long as they can, but you have to give back in return. Moreover Russian people also are quite emotional if they have problems. They will keep it to themselves thats why Russians are prone to suicidal attempts. They are also very respectful to women especially to old women. If there are gathering and they invited you, you must bring some present like beer or something that can contribute. Furthermore, Russian people dont talk too much to strangers, but they are a very good friend when you know them better. Russians are not racist; we were grown up in the world, where everybody is equal and where the friendship of nations is an important part of our agenda. (Russian Customs And Traditions). If encountered with a different looking person, Russians tend to stare at people. But, this does not mean that they are judging the person, it is so because they see the person is different and they havent seen one in their country. In addition Russian people also believe in force field, for example the sunlight, they set stored by giving to them a good mood and nice feeling. TWO STRATIGIES ON HOW TO BUILD TRUST AND RAPPORT I think in dealing with this kind of culture is not easy for me to do but there are plenty of ways to catch their attention and established rapport. Firstly, you must accept their culture so that you will know and understand their way of living. In this way, we will be able to understand and interact easily with them. Secondly, you must introduce yourself properly and explain to them what your intentions are because they are cautious when it comes to strangers. Knowing each other is simplest way in establishing trust and rapport to one another. CONCLUSION In conclusion, there are no boundaries of getting to know other cultures, worried no more as long as you know its limitations and able to deal, understand, accept, and respect each culture as we encountered in our daily journey. The Provenance Paradox
The provenance paradox describes the challenge for brands originating in a number of regions in the world failing to compete in the top tier markets. Their origin carries a stigma which places them at an inferior position to brands that originate in supposedly more developed and reputable regions. Certain geographies are perceived to produce better products than others, despite the essence being that the products are of the same quality. Following the examples from the case on how they built their up market positions with the strategies for combating the provenance paradox have been detailed: Flaunt Your Country of Origin and Stick to Colonial History Example: Chocolates El Rey and Concha y Toro Chocolates El Rey fails to find a position in the market where it can compete with the famous brands solely because it comes from Venezuela. For this chocolate brand, breaking through the barrier may be through emphasis on the fact that the reputable European chocolate brands actually acquire their main ingredient- cacao beans from El Rey. If El Rey processes these cacao beans, what would prevent it from maintaining the same quality in taste and richness when producing their own chocolate product? However, this may still be a weak point to stress on for El Rey, as consumers may still doubt them having the supposed expertise in refining the ingredient into the final chocolate product. Furthermore, Concha y Toro, the Chilean winemaker should deeply engage in brand management, like El Rey, in order to build stronger awareness of Chileââ¬â¢s exclusive varietals. By this, we describe wines made primarily from a single named grape variety typically displaying the name of that variety on the wine label. Both of these brands should stick to what they do best, in the case of El Rey, them processing some of the best cacao beans in the world, and Concha y Toro having its country, Chile producing great varietals and having a long viticultural history dating to the 16th century, should keep on the combat to get their brands known by firstly establishing price competition and continuing to be low-cost suppliers as they continue to focus on the commodities that made their countries successful way back, and hence achieve scale. Downplay Your Country of Origin Example: Corona Beer Other producers counter the effects that arise with the branded product origin on the positioning of the brand in the market by deviating focus from where the brand really comes from. Where the product is manufactured becomes an insignificant factor in the promotion, and other attributes of the branded product place it on the upper market segment. Corona Beer is one of the brands that use this strategy of ââ¬Ëdownplaying the country of originââ¬â¢. This type of combat to the provenance paradox renders the brand at risk of not being strong enough to sustain growth in popularity and trust as consumers eventually want to relate the product to where it really comes from. Not establishing the origin raises doubt of authenticity by the consumers. Nonetheless it works well in preventing the brand from being harmed by geographical undermining. Hide Behind A Front Country Example: India IT consulting companies Companies known to produce relatively cheap products are associated with low quality as well. This is the example of IT consulting companies from India as they are presumed to be good for outsourcing IT grunt work, but not for high-level strategic consulting. Hence, these companies tend to consider the ââ¬Å"hide behind a front countryâ⬠strategy by setting up fronts in Europe to be able to earn premiums for their services in Europe by downplaying the fact that they are Indian companies and choosing to hide behind a front country. Build a Brand For the Long Haul Example: Korean LG & Samsung and Japan automobiles In the electronics industry, brands such as LG and Samsung did not just reach great heights overnight. The fact that they are of Korean origin raised many doubts about their product being of quality competent enough to compete with top electronic brands. The perception of the Brands not being good quality was gradually countered through a strategy of building a brand for the long haul. They did not just emulate high performing brands overnight, but they let the consumers realize their quality through the smaller markets that hey were initially able to penetrate. With time, consumer confidence in the brands positioned them in the upmarket segment. Furthermore, Japan can serve as the best example of how the slow progression to upmarket positioning is nothing easy as after 50 years the Japanese brands in the automobile industry (Nissan, Honda and Toyota), and electronics (Sony) have achieved the upscale position commanding steep premiums with strategic and financial commitment. End note. Having also learnt about ââ¬Å"The Champagne Effectâ⬠, where the Protected Geographical Status is a framework of labeling restrictions enforced by the European Union, this framework is more of a tool to insulate brands from quality competition by reinforcing stereotypes about provenance and limiting opportunities for new players from new markets, and not really to prevent inauthentic, cheaper products. This only serves as another hurdle for emerging-market companies. However, as brands compete to overcome provenance paradox, they should consider social media, such as facebook, as this is an inexpensive channel to tout positive consumer reviews and hence get their brands known globally. They should follow what the top brands are already doing. The brands seeking for acceptance have a long way to go as emerging markets are developing faster than the stereotypes are eroding. Hence, with the help of the strategies for combating the provenance paradox they will be able to get out there and be globally recognized with patience, and long standing perseverance.

A Circular Flow Diagram That Includes The Government Sector
Microeconomics A circular flow diagram that includes the government sector. 3 sector/3 market circular flow with the foreign sector added as well. . Retrieved from: www.amosweb.com 3 sectors: Household, Business and Government 3 markets: Product, Resource and Financial The household sector is responsible for consumption expenditures. It includes everyone, all the people who seek to fulfill their wants and need. This is eating, shopping and the consumption of items. Donââ¬â¢t let the name fool you, you donââ¬â¢t have to own a house or even live in an apartment. The name ââ¬Å"Household Sectorâ⬠just simply means a personââ¬â¢s everyday wants and needs. The Business sector is our factory workers or worker ants as I like to call them. Made up of all different types of companies that leads its self-back to the Household sector to produce our everyday wants and needs. The sole purpose is the production of goods and services. Some business can be small or large and may be known as proprietorships, partnerships, or corporations. Some have companies/ factories all around the world, while others could be working from their homes. Production transforms anything into everyday wants and needs of the people. For example a pile of steel can be tra nsformed into a car. Once the car is produced then it gets transported to a dealership somewhere in the world where a single person who desires it can buy it. The Government sector is like the boss in my opinion. It includes all levels of the government whichShow MoreRelatedBasic Economic Concepts : Absolute And Comparative Advantage Essay2016 Words à |à 9 Pageseconomical equilibrium globally benefits the entire world, not just one nation or person.
